Restorative Yoga is a therapeutic style of yoga, rooted in rest and relaxation. Restorative Yoga is about slowing down. It is about opening the body, releasing accumulated tension from weary muscles in order to relax deeply. A typical Restorative Yoga class uses equipment such as bolsters, blankets, and yoga bricks, to support the body in postures of ease and comfort. These postures are then held for several minutes to facilitate relaxation, calm the nervous system, aid sound sleep, and move towards optimal health.
IS IT FOR YOU?
Restorative classes are about rejuvenation and renewal. You may find that if the pace of your life is fast, your mind moves fast too. It becomes more likely that you could feel easily overwhelmed, fatigued, and susceptible to illness, as your nervous system becomes overstimulated. By using Restorative Yoga to promote a physiological relaxation response, we seek to reduce stress and fatigue in both the minds and the bodies.
Restorative classes provide the perfect antidote to stressful times, active lifestyles and busy weeks. Practicing Restorative Yoga is also a great help to anyone who is chronically stressed, chronically ill, acutely ill, or recovering from an injury.
