Rāmadarsh

Rāmadarsh (often known as Rāma) began his yoga journey over 30 years ago. With previous experience in Buddhist philosophy and meditation, he soon began to practice yoga and later travelled to India where he lived and worked in various ashrams gaining first-hand experience of yoga’s effective and profound practices and teachings. It was in India where he was initiated into the Daśanāmi tradition and received his name from his guru, Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati.

Returning to the UK, Rāma became a resident at Mandala Yoga Ashram based in Wales from 2009 to 2013. During his 4 years living in the ashram he deepened his understanding and experience of the theory and practices of yoga. While living at the ashram, Rāma completed a 1 year meditation course as well as a 2 year yoga teacher training course and a 1 year kriya yoga course, all under the guidance of his new found mentor and spiritual guide, Swami Nishchalananda. It was at the Mandala Ashram where Rāma first discovered kirtan and devotional singing, becoming deeply connected to the power and the many benefits of mantra and chanting using the Sanskrit language. He would often lead mantra chanting in the ashram. Feeling deeply drawn to this transformational healing practice, Rāma later returned to India, where he spent time in ashrams and retreat centres, further immersing himself in yogic training and disciplines and continuing to embrace the heart centred practice of kirtan.

In 2013/14 Rāma attended a 6 month training in Yoga and Mental Health (Bristol, UK) helping him to develop his understanding and skills of how yoga can be specifically utilised to effectively relieve and support those suffering with mental health conditions.

Over recent years Rāma has studied Sanskrit, prana vidya (understanding and working with prana to heal oneself and others) and also completed an in-depth course on the principles and practices of Ayurveda (commonly described as yoga's 'sister science') which encompasses dietary disciplines, seasonal routines and ways in which one can utilise herbs towards maintaining vibrant health.

Rāma continues to pursue his love of yoga, deepening his knowledge and experience through continued training and ongoing personal practice. He continues to be inspired through his connection with nature, sound and music and their potential to heal and bring balance. Currently based in Lincolnshire, he regularly teaches both private and group classes both in hatha yoga and mindfulness / meditation. He is also leading and developing kirtan groups and mantra circles within the UK and sometimes hosts workshops both in-person and online.
