This dynamic, physically demanding practice synchronizes breath and movement to produce an internal heat designed to purify the body. Ashtanga yoga, with its many vinyasas, is great for building core strength and toning the body. Integral to the practice is a steady breath which is counted through the practice. Ashtanga Yoga was founded by K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore and has six set series. The first called the Primary Series ( Yoga Chikitsa) helps detoxify and align the body. It is usually taught in a led counted class or through self practice, where the teacher will individually assist the student. This is a counted and led class for improvers or those with a knowledge of the primary series. In this class we go at a quicker pace and do more of the primary series than the beginners.
