If you're never going to touch your toes again, and your idea of relaxation is 10 minutes to snooze on the Tube or train, then this class is probably for you.
We'll start with an easy, led relaxation session which you may want to stay in for your first few classes. Many of us are too stressed to sleep properly, and students often experience overwhelming tiredness when that stress is eased during this simple practise - and pop off to sleep - we don't mind, and will wake you when its time to go home!!
The class follows with simple easy stretches that open the shoulders, neck, face, eyes, and slowly work through the rest of the body too. We won't expect you to stand on your head, and we certainly won't put you in the cross legged Lotus position. But we will create a safe environment for you to work on softening the muscles in your back and neck, often implicated in tension headaches, and lower back pain, as well as slowly working towards increased flexibility. All of the movements are calibrated - that means you do what you can and no-one watches or evaluates, Yoga is non-competitive and this class particularly so.
You will be pleasantly surprised to find yourself successfully performing simple asana's or yoga postures, following the stretching and relaxation, all of which are designed to aid flexibility of the spine, and tone the internal organs as only yoga postures can do.
We'll do some basic breathing exercises to help you centre into your own space as well as improve your posture, blood flow, oxygen intake and mood.
At the end of the class is a longer relaxation to take you to calm, contented and stillness - so you literally slip out the class and home to bed, for a proper nights rest.
You won't get stiff or sore after this class and with continued practise, your sleeping pattern is likely to improve as your stress levels drop.
