Neuroplasticity of the Brain & Kundalini Yoga

What is Neuroplasticity?

Neuroplasticity describes the brains ability to create new neural networks, adapt old ones, and respond with a new pattern. Rewiring our responses to life so that we can quit reacting and begin living

Our brains are constantly being shaped by experience. Most of us have very different behaviours and thoughts today than we did 20 years ago. This shift is neuroplasticity in action; changes in brain structure and organisation as we experience, learn, and adapt. With every repetition of a thought or emotion, we reinforce a neural pathway - and with each new thought, we begin to create a new way of being. These small changes, frequently enough repeated, lead to changes in how our brains work.

Neuroplasticity is the 'muscle building' part of the brain; the things we do often we become stronger at, and what we don’t use fades away. That is the physical basis of why making a thought or action over and over again increases its power. Over time, it becomes automatic; a part of us. We literally become what we think and do.

Neuroplasticity is at work throughout life. Connections within the brain are constantly becoming stronger or weaker, depending on what is being used. Younger people change easily; their brains are very plastic. As we age change doesn't come as easily; the brain loses some of its plasticity and we become more fixed in how we think, learn, and perceive. Since the brain is pivotal to all we think and do, by harnessing neuroplasticity we can improve everything we do and think.

Kundalini Yoga & Meditation as taught by Yogi Bhajan works with these fundamental principles of neuroplasticity to renewing the brain helping you creating new neuropath and healthy habits.

As yogis, we use the eyes—drishti; and the hands—mudras; and the tongue—mantra to rewire our brains. On the subtle level, we move and arrange the tattvas (five elements) in new patterns so that our brain can rewire itself. We drop the past and begin to respond in new ways; we invite new experiences in as we let go of old habits. This is the true discipline of the law of attraction. Change your Self so that you change what you invite in.

In this five week course the combination of Pranayama (breath work), Kriya (asana), Dhyana (meditation) and a part of theory (simple exercise) can help setting the foundation of new patterns and habits for a new lifestyle.
When starting anew after having experience with drugs and alcohol addiction for 15 years this material and practice has given me solid foundation to have the life I wanted to create for the new me. Beginners Kundalini Yoga Meditation & Gong Bath

Maitri Shakti Kaur is a devoted, dynamic and experienced teacher.

Maitri has been practising many styles of Yoga and Meditation including Kundalini, Iyengar, Jivan mukte, Restorative, Yin and Dru Yoga; exploring the art of mindfulness from the Zen Buddhist teaching of Thich Nhat Hanh and deepening her experience with 5 Rhythms which is a form of active meditation created by Gabrielle Roth.

Her interest on personal evolution brought her recently to take part of a course for a new technique called, the Metamorphic Touch, a simple and effective awakening massage that allows clients to experience their natural state of being letting go of mental and physical limitations.

Maitri feels her journey has reached a sort of completion attending "Beyond Addiction The Yogic Path to Recovery" in September 2015- 2016, taught and mentored by Sad Dharam Kaur. She is now supporting students with her knowledge and compassionate approach coming from her personal experience with a basic ayurvedic prospective and yogic lifestyle.

Maitri has trained as a Kundalini Yoga teacher with Sky in 2011-12, taught and mentored by Guru Dharam Kalsa.

In 2011 she has successfully completed a course with Siri Arti Kaur, founder of“Starchild”(Yoga for children age 4 to 16), bringing a creative and fun aspect to her teaching which not only children benefitted from but probably even more so her adult students. She complemented this training with the“Clown Therapy”course in 2009 for children recovering in hospital.

She has also been a certified Reiki 1 facilitator-healer since 2008 and attended level 2 in 2016 in Portugal.

Kundalini yoga has been the most powerful tool she has come across in her journey of self discovery through all the various disciplines she practiced and trained on, for the personal experience it gave her to inspire others in the same path.

Maitri has offered her service at a rehab centre - “Crouston Oak Lodge” and “The Passage” - a charities for homeless where she share the teaching to help on recovering from addiction with alcohol and drugs.

Complementing her yoga practice, she also teach how to integrate Ayurvedic nutrition into her students daily lives to improve the functioning of the systems in the physical, mental and spiritual body.

It is her wish that every living being, young or old, experience using these tools to heal themselves and to celebrate the infinite potential and truth that lies within each of us.
