Yoga for Pregnancy

Have a healthy pregnancy and prepare for birth with these traditional yoga classes which include asana, breathing, meditation and relaxation.

Physical movement and postures (asana):
This will include positions to support active birth (for example squatting, kneeling, all fours). Practice is holistic and will engage all body parts using both dynamic and static asana. There is a gradual progression of difficulty across each class and across the whole course. Adaptations, modifications and props are used where required to make suitable for individual bodies and stage of pregnancy.

Breathing: Ujjayi breathing will be taught and then used to support movement throughout the class. Women will learn to adopt this simple breath with ease so that they can then use it to help manage contractions during labour. Also, specific yogic breathing exercises (pranayama) will develop ability to focus attention, shut out other sensations and calm the mind.

Meditation: As well as meditating on the breath, meditations specific to pregnancy will be included such as bonding with the baby, preparation for birth (for example openness, letting go), visualisations and positive affirmations.

Relaxation: All classes will finish with relaxation, which allows physical and mental transformations to settle into the body and gives rest.

Experience a classic yoga practice with dynamic and static asana, specific breathing exercises (pranayama) and finish with a short meditation and relaxation.

Take part in flowing yoga sequences. All movements follow a controlled slow breath so instead of feeling tired you will feel energized and re-invigorated.

Start from where you are! Anyone can take part and make progress.

Norah Nelson Yoga in South Devon - Vinyasa Krama Yoga for everyone

I have been practising yoga since 2003
, and I completed Teacher
Training program in Vinyasa Krama Yoga with Harmony
Yoga Academy in 2011. I recently completed a Diploma in Pregnancy Yoga with Yoga Gro. My yoga practice has been most influenced
by Krishnamacharya’s tradition, which emulates how
I feel about sustainable, optimal health and wellbeing across
the lifespan. Yoga has had physical and spiritual therapeutic
effects in my life, and I would like to help more people find balance in their lives through yoga. I am also influenced by Scaravelli's teachings on the spine.
I am fascinated with the idea that yoga practiced with vinyasa (variations) and krama (intelligent sequence or method) allows anyone to start from where they are and make progress. Using a holistic and adaptive approach is an essential component to how I teach – I really believe yoga is for everybody.

My previous training gives me an affinity with sports people and people who are physically active. I am interested in helping people use yoga to facilitate more healthy and respectful use of their bodies and how this can enhance their other activities and quality of life.
I am an experienced teacher with over ten years teaching in further and higher education settings. I currently teach anatomy and physiology on the Harmony Yoga teacher training qualification.
