Yoga Nidra stands for yoga sleep in sanskrit, and is an ancient meditative practice that enables one to experience a deep sleep state consciously. Its proven effectiveness in the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder and anxiety has led yoga nidra to be employed in the US military for soldiers returning home and in need of rehabilitation.
Yoga Nidra is a restorative practice normally following an asana yoga class where one is led through a series of techniques that takes one beyond the hynogogic state of the mind( where hypnosis normally occurs) and into the subconscious mind. It has proven to be incredibly helpful in aiding overall healing of mental, physical and psychological pain as well as anxiety and insomnia.
