Chakra Awareness and Chanting Introduction Workshop

A 2 hour workshop based around the 7 chakras and an introduction to chanting / mantra.

The seven chakras are the centers in our bodies in which energy flows through.

Blocked energy in our seven chakras can often lead to illness, so it's important to understand what each chakra represents and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely.

1. Root Chakra — Represents our foundation and feeling of being grounded.
Location: Base of spine in tailbone area.
Emotional issues: Survival issues such as financial independence, money and food.

2. Sacral Chakra — Our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences.
Location: Lower abdomen, about two inches below the navel and two inches in.
Emotional issues: Sense of abundance, well-being, pleasure and sexuality

3. Solar Plexus Chakra — Our ability to be confident and in control of our lives.
Location: Upper abdomen in the stomach area.
Emotional issues: Self-worth, self-confidence and self-esteem.

4. Heart Chakra — Our ability to love.
Location: Center of chest just above the heart.
Emotional issues: Love, joy and inner peace.

5. Throat Chakra — Our ability to communicate.
Location: Throat
Emotional issues: Communication, self-expression of feelings and the truth.

6. Third Eye Chakra — Our ability to focus on and see the big picture.
Location: Forehead between the eyes (also called the Brow Chakra).
Emotional issues: Intuition, imagination, wisdom and the ability to think and make decisions.

7. Crown Chakra — The highest chakra represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually.
Location: The very top of the head.
Emotional issues: Inner and outer beauty, our connection to spirituality and pure bliss.

Mantras are like medicine for the soul.

When we select a word or series of words to repeat in the form of a mantra, we are affirming it to ourselves and allowing its meaning to seep below the surface, into our subconscious, helping to shift our negative habits and patterns into positive ones.

As yogis, we have access to Sanskrit, an ancient, highly mathematical, and sacred language, so why not use it?

Sanskrit is considered by some linguists to be the “perfect language,” as its correct pronunciation evokes a unique vibration in the Universe, placing into motion whatever you are trying to manifest through your mantra.

The run up to the Christmas period can be a stressfuil time for people so come and spend some time unblocking the chakras in the beautiful studio at Lanhydrock. There will be a vinyasa flow sequence with poses relating to each chakra.
After this we will introduce some chants / mantras and practice working with them.
This will end with a blissful guided meditation leaving you fully recharged and rejuvenated and ready to overcome any obstacles

Vinyasa flow - all levels - breath work, asanas and relaxation / meditation

I teach private individuals and small groups. I find private lessons and smaller groups to be especially rewarding for both the student and the teacher as I find I can focus more attention on the student, giving guidance to ensure they achieve the correct posture and increase their understanding of the pose and of yoga as a whole. This also enables me to tailor classes to the needs of the student, to their strengths and weaknesses.

I teach a drop in class at Hawksfield (The Paddock Room), A39, Wadebridge on a Wednesday morning at 10am. These commence November 30th 2016. The class is vinyasa flow and is suitable for all levels as modifications are offered.

If you are new to yoga and not sure what to expect, a typical class is between 60 - 90 minutes long and begins with some quiet time to centre ourselves and tune in to our practice. This moves on to warming up the muscles of the body and gently loosening up the joints before working through various sequences of asana posture work. We would then cool down, often to Pranayama (breathing practice), before coming into final relaxation in Corpse pose (Savasana).
