CHARITY 'Garden' Yoga Classes

Since 2017 I have held outdoor yoga sessions on the first weekend of September in aid of Cancer Research UK in memory of my lovely mum Lola, who sadly died from cancer in June that year. My Mum practiced yoga for most of her life, well into her 80s and was a shining example of how to live a life based on yoga values. Even when she was going through gruelling chemotherapy she would turn up to class with a smile on her face and make a point of asking how the other students were feeling rather than discussing her own problems. She was delighted when I decided to train as a yoga teacher and she knew I was arranging to teach these sessions in her honour (although we both hoped she would still be here to attend). I named my company (ALOLA Yoga) in honour of her as lots of people, out of love and respect, called her 'Aunty Lola' and 'A Lola' for short, which in Sanskrit means “tranquillity”.

WHEN?

The plan is to have two outdoor yoga sessions on each day at 11am and 1:30pm, as long as it is dry! The sessions are planned for the first weekend in September every year no matter the weather!

NOT JUST YOGA

There will be some refreshments available, so a chance for a lovely chat with friends and parking is available (in a field if required, so share if you can).

WHERE?

The venue has had to change over the years for various reasons so it is best to check my web site for up-to-date information. If you have never done a yoga class outside before this is definitely a chance not to be missed. A chance to treat your senses, enjoy the feeling of space and become one with nature.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

In order to get an idea of how many students would like to attend and more importantly to get people’s contact details in case of rain, I am asking you to register your interest by either emailing karen@alola.yoga (please include date/s and time/s you wish to attend) or booking a place online at www.alola.yoga. No donation/payment needs to be made now - just donate on the day. I'm suggesting a minimum £10 per session as a guide to those who are not sure what to donate. You will need to bring your own mats, although some will be available to hire if you don’t wish to use yours outside.

100% TO CANCER RESEARCH UK

If you can’t make it on the day, you can still donate or maybe make a cake to donate instead. 100% of donations (and refreshment sales, etc.) will be going to Cancer Research UK.

I hope these events can be a fitting memorial to an amazing lady and at the same time raise some much needed funds to help rid this world of the suffering that cancer brings.

Karen at ALOLA YOGA

My name is Karen and I have practised yoga for over 20 years. I have found yoga has helped me through many of life's challenges and want to share the benefits with others, which is why I decided to train with the BWY (British Wheel of Yoga). I believe yoga is an inclusive activity that can help people build strength, improve flexibility and reduce stress.
Yoga classes are held in Darlington and Hurworth and are designed to help you challenge yourself to improve within a safe and non-competitive environment.
