Scaravelli Inspired Yoga Immersion

Scaravelli Inspired Immersion:
The Spine as an Organ of the Breath

Would you like to fine-tune your personal yoga practice? Do you want to explore your creativity and expand your yoga approach to teaching?

Join Catherine Annis and Gary Carter to explore:
The Spine and the Breath in Yoga

Scaravelli inspired yoga is unique and challenging – both to practice and to teach. This approach offers a fresh way of looking at the body and the postures, which will nourish and inspire you as you travel along your yoga journey.

This Scaravelli Inspired Immersion Course is designed specifically for yoga teachers, yoga teacher trainees and anyone with a serious interest in exploring and refining their practice and teaching skills. It is an opportunity to expand the ways we teach yoga as inspired by the work of Vanda Scaravelli and is constantly evolving in response to requests from returning attendees.
We can only ever teach from our own practice. During this course, we will therefore focus on nurturing our own yoga practice; refining and refreshing it, so that we can pass on our discoveries to others with skill and clarity. Each day we’ll look at a different aspect or approach to practice, so that you leave with some fresh inspiration, and answers to your specific questions.

Course Outline
Refine your Practice: Spine and the Breath
Vanda Scaravelli focused on three main elements of yoga: the pull of gravity, the breath, and the resulting response in the spine. This course will focus particularly on the articulations of the spine, and how they interact with the movement of the breath.

Gary Carter will also be joining us again for a full day. He will lead the following two, 3 hour long sessions:
1. Anatomy in Yoga: Spinal Structure and Function
2. Breath and Movement

In addition, there will be a Posture Clinic session, where we help answer specific questions on any asanas or aspects of the practice you would like to explore more deeply.

Limited to just 20 attendees (17 residential, 3 non-residential/camping), the Scaravelli inspired immersion course will help you:

* Discover a clearer understanding of the principles of this approach to yoga, with specific focus on the articulations of the spine, and the effect of breath on our yoga practice
* Deepen your knowledge of anatomy and structural relationships
* Understand and explore the mechanics of breath and the spine
* Develop fresh subtle approaches to adjusting / assisting your students
* Refresh and reinvigorate your own personal practice and teaching

Catherine Annis

Catherine Annis is well known for her imaginative and practical approach to yoga. Originally a professional dancer, she discovered yoga as a teenager, and has been practicing for more than 35 years. Having explored Sivananda, Iyengar, Ashtanga and various forms of Hatha yoga, she eventually gravitated to the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli.
Catherine’s practice and teaching focuses on deepening physical awareness and alignment to reveal the natural freedom of the body, particularly the spine. She is an attentive and thoughtful teacher, and highly skilled at adapting poses to accommodate all levels and types of students, so that everyone leaves class feeling that they have made a fresh discovery about their yoga practice. She is a member of the Triyoga teacher training faculty and teaches weekly classes in London. She also leads retreats at various locations in India and Europe, and created the first Scaravelli inspired immersion course, which is held annually, and is regularly invited to teach workshops throughout the UK, and internationally.

"You are the best yoga teacher I have ever had, and I love your mixture of a very thoughtful and intelligent approach to yoga with a light touch and sense of humour. You also seem to be genuinely interested in your pupils - it's not all about you."
Amanda, long term student

Scaravelli inspired yoga is a gentle yet demanding form of Hatha yoga, which concentrates on developing core strength through releasing tension thereby helping to free the spine's powerful natural flexibility. Classes are exploratory and develop sensitivity and awareness, helping to create a clear understanding of the musculo-skeletal systems. Suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced. Particularly helpful for those working with postural or spinal issues.
