Hey there, lovely souls! Welcome to my little corner of the internet. I’m Gillian, I’m a yoga enthusiast and teacher and I’m thrilled you’ve dropped by to get to know me better. So, grab your mat and let’s dive into my yoga journey.
I stumbled into the world of yoga over 20 years ago, looking for a way to soothe my wandering soul and calm my mental health challenges. I had been newly diagnosed with depression and prescribed medication and counselling. But I knew that I wanted to help myself. Walking into that first yoga class was like finding a treasure chest of balance, strength, and serenity all at the same time. It was exactly what I didn’t know I had been looking for.
Around the same time as my depression I also began to experience increasingly debilitating migraine symptoms, including brain fog, head pain and disrupted sleep. As I healed my mental health migraine became my primary health concern, robbing me of family meals, fun events and putting me on a path back towards depression and anxiety.
Again I turned to my yoga trainings to begin my healing journey. I learned that my nervous system feels threatened and produces the head pain as a defensive mechanism. My personal study also showed me that prioritising sleep, nutritious food and water and ensuring I had plenty of exercise and relaxation time all helped me manage my migraine.
I am not cured and I don’t believe that I can be. Just as I can be prone to low mood and anxious moments, there will always be situations which make my nervous system feel attacked and may result in a migraine. But now I am equipped to manage those times without guilt, overwhelm or worry. Every day I use my yoga techniques to help me quiet my mind through meditation, relax my body & mind through yoga nidra and move through yoga practices. I can also enjoy more of the things which make life worth living, eating tasty food, spending time with family & friends and playing with my shih tzu, Jackson.
Over on my YouTube channel you will find a collection of yoga practices between 10 and 30 minutes long. These are designed to support women who are overwhelmed by the impact migraine is having on their lives. It’s a chance for you to use yoga for migraine to unwind, switch off and perhaps begin to move towards becoming your own Migraine Manager.
I also offer a selection of guided meditations on Insight Timer. Here you will find some guided relaxation tracks, meditation and yoga nidra. Each has been recorded to support the nervous system in returning to a state of balance.
You can join me at a yoga class or event in Lanarkshire. I teach 3 classes per week and offer a variety of workshops and day retreats throughout the year. But if you’re not local or want to get started right away, then check out my FREE Serene Sleep Yoga Journey, where I will guide you through 3-days of yoga practices crafted to support you in enjoying a relaxing and restful sleep. I believe that our wellbeing begins and ends with a restful sleep, when we’re rested we can handle just about anything. 🧘♀️💕 https://subscribepage.io/rcQ9sN
